A short quiz on academic lexis used for describing
graphs (taken from IELTS preparation)
Answering the questions:

Which kind of
pet would you prefer to have and why?

What do you
think about behavior therapy for animals? Is it popular in our country?

think about keeping a dog/a cat at home?

Student’s book p. 26-27, ex. 3, 5
The students read the introduction and four texts
about pets and then answer 11 questions from ex.5 p. 27 and 4 questions from
ex. 6 p. 27

IELTS preparation
The teacher demonstrates presentation, which slides tell the students
about the correct way of describing one-line graphs. The students discuss the
tips the teacher gave, compare sample answers; find advantages and
disadvantages of each description; try to give their own one (to the graph in
the left, which is shown on the slide) according to the model:
"introduction-body-conclusion”; make notes; come to definite conclusions.

Production
The students are able to:

Use skimming and
scanning for successful work with different types of texts
2.
Describe
one-line graphs in the correct way, using special lexis, linking words, various
sentence structures and synonyms.
